Things to see on this Unmissable Paris to Versailles Private Tours

Let’s take a peek at the primary rooms we’ll be visiting during this Versailles private tour:

  • The main suppers, balls, and celebrations were held in the Hercules drawing-room.
  • When the gatherings became too intense, the Salon of Abundance was used to acquire some refreshments.
  • The Venus room, where the king’s guests were served food and drink from buffet tables.
  • The Diana room: Louis and his soldiers enjoyed playing billiards in this area while ladies sat about them.
  • Louis’ Swiss bodyguards were housed in the Mars Room, also known as the Guard Room.
  • Bedtime, wake-up… were all public rituals in the Mercury room, which may have served as Louis’ official (but not actual) bedroom.
  • The Apollo Salon, the magnificent throne hall, is utilized for receptions and entertainment. Everything here reminds us that Louis was not just any king, but the Sun King.
  • Recently, the Queen’s Apartments were restored. We advise you to visit (according to the opening of the Chateau).
  • Royal children were born in the Queen’s Bedchamber in front of the court.
  • The Salon of the Nobles had discussions about politics, literature, fashion, and philosophy.
  • The Queen’s Antechamber is sometimes referred to as the Grand Couvert. In this salon, the royal family dined in front of servants and aristocracy.
  • The Queen’s guard chamber is infamous for being the location where Marie Antoinette was arrested by a mob of revolutionaries at daybreak on October 6, 1789, and brought to Paris.
  • The Salon des Nobles was the Queen’s Apartments’ second antechamber.
  • The coronation room was once the château’s third chapel, but in 1682 it was converted into a guards’ room for both the King and Queen.
  • The War Room (when open) and the famed Hall of Mirrors, which used to hold balls and celebrations organized by the King for the aristocracy, will be the next stops on your private tour to Versailles. The Hall of Mirrors is a spectacular space with an unusual size, abundant light, and 357 mirrors.

The richness of this space, together with your guide’s words, will allow you to envision balls and celebrations that used to be held to welcome French royalty.

Your Experience in 2024

The majestic Royal Palatine Chapel will be the first stop on your private tour to Versailles. This will be an opportunity to learn more about the Royal Family’s close ties with the Catholic Church, as well as a better understanding of the Royal Absolute Power, which is the idea that the King was chosen by God to administer God’s justice to the people.

From there, your own guide will take you on a tour of the King’s State Apartments, bringing history to life. You’ll walk through the lavish salons, following in the footsteps of the Queen, the King, and their courtiers who frequented Versailles on a regular basis, while your own guide explains the history of the kings’ parties conducted here to delight the court.

Your guide will tell you about everything from the gaming tables to the theatre, comedies, operas, concerts, and secret performances at balls and masquerades, where courtiers would dazzle the court with their dancing talents (King Louis was a great connoisseur).

Your experienced guide will educate you on the complexities of The Etiquette, the regulations that govern every aspect of the Royal Family’s and the entire court’s lives from sunrise to dusk.

As you walk through Louis XV’s Council Chamber, Louis XIV’s Bedchamber, and the Bull’s Eye Antechamber before arriving in the regal elegance of the Queen’s Apartments, your guide will recreate the glories of court life through subtle symbols and symbolic imagery.

The exquisite grounds of the Château de Versailles are the next step and the following wonders to appreciate:

  1. The pleasure gardens are large, with 70 hectares, and it’s easy to get lost in the maze of trails and trees.
  2. Your knowledgeable guide will lead you on a journey through the lush alleyways, ensuring that you don’t miss any of the garden’s hidden gems.
  3. During your visit, you’ll also view the Orangerie, which has an astonishing 2000 orange trees, as well as the French and English gardens.
  4. All the guides on the private tour to Versailles are passionate about their work and are always happy to share their knowledge about Versailles and the Royal Family with you, including all of the city’s best-kept secrets.

Recommendations for Visiting Versailles

We recommend comfortable shoes (sneakers, for example) and comfortable attire because you will be walking and on your feet for several hours. A bottle of water, sunscreen, and hats are recommended for the greatest experience throughout the summer months. Warm clothing and sturdy shoes (in case it’s slick) are recommended during the winter months to keep you comfortable in the Gardens.

Safety Recommendations when Visiting Versailles

In addition to the increased security to gain access to the Palace, the control may take longer than usual. People can circumvent the huge lines by purchasing skip-the-line tickets. However, especially during peak season, you may have to wait a while for the check.

FAQs

Tuesdays and weekends are the busiest days at the Palace. The Palace is usually less crowded in the afternoons (though this cannot be guaranteed). If you want to visit the Fountain Shows or the Musical Gardens, check the schedules below.

If you book the private tour to Versailles on the following dates, you will receive a discount:

  • Musical Fountain Shows (musical fountains) are accessible every Saturday and Sunday from March to October, and every Tuesday from the end of May to the end of June.
  • From March to October, Musical Gardens (no water exhibits) are open every Tuesday and Friday.

Versailles is not a good place for parents with babies and very young children (less than 5 years old) during the high season, due to enormous crowds and possible delays. It may be difficult for both the parents and the children.

Except on Mondays, this excursion is available every day. (The Palace is currently closed.) Only professional travel firms have direct access to the Palace’s limited number of tickets. These are really popular and sell out rapidly. If at all feasible, book 6 weeks in advance during the high season (April-August). Otherwise, try to schedule a trip in the afternoon when the Palace is less crowded. Please provide us with alternate days and times if possible.

The Full Day trips are the only ones that include a lunch stop (meals are not included in the tour price).
